Step by step
- Open AI Takeoff from the sidebar. The list shows your takeoffs under three tabs — Active (still running or waiting for review), Done (imported) and Archived.
- A takeoff runs in stages you can watch live: it reads the drawings, indexes the sheets, asks in the chat what to take off, measures everything it can without a model (the prepass), then lets the agent review what the prepass produced and flag what it cannot settle.
- The prepass is the part that counts and measures: tags, runs, fittings, risers, devices. It costs nothing — no AI credits are spent on measuring.
- Credits are spent only while the agent reviews, answers you in chat, or re-runs a sheet. That is why picking the right sheets matters more than anything else you do.
- When the run finishes, the job goes to Review: the marked-up sheet on the left, the items and flags on the right. Nothing leaves the takeoff until you import it into an estimate.
- A takeoff opens as a chat (the main way in); the layers button beside it opens the visual review — the same job, drawn on the sheets.
- Use the row menu on the list to archive a finished takeoff, delete one you no longer want, or compare it with another run of the same job.
Note: Measuring is free. Credits are spent only when the agent reviews, answers you in chat, or re-runs a sheet — so the sheet picker, not the budget, is where you control the cost.
Tip: Close the page once a run starts. It keeps going on the server and you are notified when it is ready to review.
Careful: A takeoff is a reading of a drawing, not a guarantee. Nothing reaches an estimate until you import it, and the number you bid is yours.
